Symptoms

  • Discomfort / Irritation
  • Feeling like something is in the eye (Foreign Body sensation)
  • Blurry vision after reading or doing near work for awhile
  • Tearing

Why the tear film is so Important

  • Comfort – Having a moist eye surface is important for ocular comfort.
  • Vision – The tear film/ corneal interface is responsible for 2/3 rds of the power of the eye. With prolonged reading or near work, the eye dries out and vision becomes blurry.

Treatment

  • Artificial Tears
  • Plugging the tear drain of the eye. See a short video animation on Punctal Plugs.
  • Restasis
